When the Essen Motor Show opens its doors from the 28th November to the 6th December, ATS will of course be there as well, as one of the leading manufacturers of lightweight metal wheels – as part of a tradition, and of course with innovative products and the most modern technologies for the future.
Bad Dürkheim, November 2009: More than 40 years of the Essen Motor Show, more than 40 years of ATS lightweight metal wheels – once again, tradition will be mee-ting modern technology at the tuning Mecca in the Ruhr region. So it goes without saying that ATS - as one of the leading and most innovative manufacturers of lightweight metal wheels – is traditionally part of Germany’s most famous trade fair for motorsports and tuning, and will be offering a fascinating insight into future trends and technologies in the world of lightweight metal wheels, in Hall 2, at Stand 116.
The fact that ATS sees itself as a pioneer in the industry is also reflected in the fact that the wheels in Bad Dürkheim are continuing to turn at top revs, quite literally – despite times that are certainly difficult economically. This is also indicated by the re-launch, and the freshening-up of the company-logo, without doubt only a small fraction of the innovative momentum with which ATS is starting into the new decade. For ATS, 2010 stands not only for new products, but also for new technologies, new partnerships and new successes in motorsport.
Among the many new products it is the latest creations CHAMPION and RACELIGHT – being presented at the Essen Motor Show for the first time – that particularly stand out. The one-piece lightweight metal wheel CHAMPION is based upon the wheels used in motorsport, which is to say designed with Y-spokes, and is available in various sizes from 17 to 19 inches.
The extremely elaborately manufactured ATS RACELIGHT, however, once again underlines the innovativeness of ATS, because this very sophisticated-looking light metal wheel does its looks justice, even in the highest, lightest dimensions. Due to the unique FlowForming technology used in the manufacturing of the wheel, ATS ensures very high rigidity with an extremely low weight. Compared with conventionally cast and commonly available wheels, they provide a weight-saving of 4 kg per wheel, even in the 19-inch segment, amounting to a total of 16 kg per vehicle.
With technical know-how as extensive as this and the pioneering technologies it seems clear that light metal wheels from ATS enjoy an extremely high reputation both in national and international motorsport. For example, the specialists at ATS have already been equipping the demanding and highly competitive Formula 3 Euroseries, one of the - perhaps the - toughest new series, from which many Formula 1 aces have already emerged. Recently, for example, Nico Hülkenberg made the jump from the Formula 3-Euroseries to the GP2 and into the top motorsport class and will be driving in Team Williams next year. “Also Touring Car World Championship has top priority in 2010”, Motorports and Marketing Director Harald Jacksties announces.
But also the national Formula 3 series, the ATS Formula 3 Cup, also uses know-how from Bad Dürkheim and has already produced many future champions, most famously Michael Schumacher.
The racing trims from ATS are also the first choice for touring cars: in the Seat Leon Supercopa, for example, which has been highly competitive for many years and which will also continue to provide thrilling motorsport for the next two years thanks to the support of ATS. In addition to this, ATS proves its expertise long-distance sport, in the framework of the world’s most popular and most demanding series, the long-distance championship on the Nürburgring. The series held on the Nordschleife is regarded as the toughest testing ground for drivers and equipment, and the products of ATS have been facing its challenges convincingly and thoroughly successfully for years.
Building on the championships that have been won to date and the high satisfaction of previous customers, ATS is continuing to expand its motorsport involvement for the future. In 2010, Volkswagen will be starting the global VW Scirocco-Cup, the first brand cup to be held with natural-gas-powered vehicles. This is a promising, innovative concept, in which the successful and innovative racing sport trims of ATS are of course the first choice and will be used exclusively. The same applies to the ADAC Cruze Cup which has also been created recently, and which will be celebrating its premiere next year – also with lightweight metal from ATS.
At this year’s Essen Motor Show ATS can thus look back upon a company tradition of almost 40 years with many different successes and major technological achievements. But in 2009, and certainly under the modernised company logo, the gaze of ATS continues to be focussed in one direction: towards seminal and innovative technical solutions in the field of light metal wheels.
